I just got The Gospel of Food by Barry Glassner from the library. This book seems right up my alley (don't you love books that "prove" beliefs you already hold firmly?) as it purports that many health claims (and, thus, food fads) popular today are incorrect and take the joy out of eating without benefit. I have long held that food needs to be enjoyable to be good for you and that too many people seem to eat as though the more painful the process the healthier they will be.

That said, I'm intrigued to read his "defense" of the fast food industry and new ideas on the obesity epidemic he's not certain exists.

I doubt it will all be stellar (especially as I've read the NY Times' opinion), but I'm excited about the prospect.
